Youth, Africa, & the Problem
78% of Ugandans are below 35 years, implying a ‘young’ nation. It’s the same across Africa; 70% are below 30 years, and by 2030, young Africans will account for 42% of the global youth population and 75% of Africa. This must be great, for demographers agree that a young & energyetic population (15-65 years) are foundational to development (demographic dividend), right? Sadly, for Uganda & Africa, most of these ‘productive youth’ do not meet the requirements. Scholary evidence & history of development across nations show that the youth must be empowered in four areas in order to be any productive, for themselves and their nations: 1. Quality Education & skills; 2. Health; 3. Climate Change & Livelihoods; 4. Leadership. Otherwise, the many unempowered youth simply become another burden! Unfortunately, it isn’t well across the four areas in Uganda, Africa, & Other Developing countries. What is Miklah Life doing about it?
